Fifth Grade Expectations

    Students should be ready to participate in class by focusing on the lesson and asking/answering questions. Students should come to class each day prepared with their iPad and homework.

Snack

    Please send a small portion of your child’s favorite fruit or vegetable. Students may choose when they would like to eat their snack; there is no preset time. If they are not hungry during the morning, they may choose to eat their snack during the afternoon. They are given the opportunity to get their snack during transition time. After the lesson begins they are not allowed to go retrieve it.

Homework

    Homework will be given to reinforce what has been taught, prepare students for upcoming lessons, teach responsibility, and help students develop positive study habits. Students should be able to do the work on their own and only ask for help after they have given it their best effort.  I will check homework.  I ask that parents make homework a top priority. Please provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, and contact me if you notice a problem. If students choose not to do their homework, I will talk with them to make sure they understand the assignment. If the problem persists, I will contact the parents to discuss possible solutions.

A homework calendar is provided on the school website for those days when a student has forgotten to record an assignment due date or for your own knowledge.
To access the calender:
  1. Open your internet to the HHAI website (www.hhai.org).
  2. Click on “Students” in the blue menu across the top of your screen.
  3. Click on “Grade 5” in the menu on the left hand side of the screen.
  4. Find that day’s date box.
  5. Click on the name of the teacher to find out what their homework for that day is.

iPads

    This is the year that students become independently responsible for the care and use of their assigned school-owned iPad. The students will transition from using devices as an enhancement to lessons and projects to using them as a daily tool. We will be using EduCreations, Pages, Keynote, iBook author, Notability, Padlet, Quizlet and Google Apps.
